Russian Software is Used for Extraterrestrial Exploration

Possible applications of Russian software were presented in the frames of the poster presentation that took place on November 30 at the 5th International Conference “Earth from Space – the Most Effective Solutions”. The Moscow State University of Geodesy and Cartography carries out exploration activities on extraterrestrial modeling and mapping. In building mosaics from spectrozonal images acquired by the Mars Express mission, multistage technique is applied to the Phobos surface, which could include use of Scanex Image Processor software designed in Russia.

— This is possible through algorithms and methods implemented in Scanex Image Processor. In particular, transformation of images uses Scanex IP toolbox: polynomial transformation, coregistration and partially local transformation, - explained Maxim Andreev, Engineer of Innovational Scientific Center “Geomonitoring” (Moscow State University of Geodesy and Cartography).

Images received from automatic space stations flying missions for exploration of extraterrestrial bodies of the Solar System, have specific properties and differ from images of the Earth’s surface acquired by ERS satellites.
